MIRAMICHI, N.B. – It’s 5K time in Miramichi again, and this time it’s back on the regular route.
The Miramichi September 5K race will take place on Sunday, Sept. 3, returning to the regular 5K course starting and finishing at the corner of Newcastle Blvd. and Beaverbrook Road, after the last month’s Irish Festival 5K race in the Chatham area.
“We had 31 registered last year, which is about average,” said Brian Richard, past president of the Miramichi River Runners.
In that race, Ben Hope, visiting from London, England, placed first with a time of 16:30, followed by Miramichi’s own Paula Keating at 18:45.

Tanya Wood leads a group of runners at the start of the Miramichi September 5K last year, while Angela Loveday, Amy Barrieau and Kelsey Green follow.

With other races happening in New Brunswick on the same day, it is tough to guess at what the turnout will be, according to Richard.
“For a lot of people, like guys from the Bathurst area, it will depend on whether they want to compete in our point series,” he explained. “They have to have so many races here in order to qualify for our championship.”
For example, Sylvain Arseneau sits atop the Miramichi River Runners points standings now, but only has a nine-point lead over Paul Comeau.
