NEW GLASGOW, N.S. – Mothers and daughters were the toast of the town here yesterday, especially for the 750 women who took part in the annual Miss Miles Mother’s Day 5K Classic.
Women of all ages took part in the event, which followed up the run in downtown New Glasgow with Mother’s Day pampering that included a photo booth, sweet treats, carnations and mimosas.
“The day was fantastic,” said Stephanie Miles of Truro. “My daughter and I did this together, and it was the perfect event for Mother’s Day.”

Several runners from Truro were among the 750 women participating in this year’s Miss Miles Mother’s Day 5K Classic in New Glasgow on Sunday, May 14.

It was Darlene Clowe Marshall’s second year participating, and she was not disappointed.
“It is an absolutely wonderful event and the race directors pull it off without a hitch, or at least none that us participants can see,” she said. “We all feel very spoiled at this event and there are usually a few of us from Truro who register for this one early. We love the atmosphere.”
Clowe Marshall also approves of the organizers’ decision to keep the event capped at 750 participants.
“They shouldn’t mess with a good thing, and they definitely have a good thing going here with the Miss Miles,” she said.
She offered kudos to the organizers and everyone from the registration workers, course volunteers and community members who cheered them on, for helping to make the day special.
“It meant a lot to me for personal reasons to run in this event, and I was very proud to do this with my daughter,” said Miles. “We will definitely be back next year.”
Miles was one of several women from the Truro Run Tribe club who traveled to New Glasgow for the event, continuing a tradition of support from Truro runners for the Johnny Miles series.
